Flamingo Flower (Anthurium x 'Misty Rose') - Description

Flamingo flower (Anthurium hybrid) is an evergreen tropical tender perennial native to the wet tropical mountain forests of central and south America. 'Misty Rose' is a patented hybrid variety that doesn't occur in nature. Because it is a patented variety it is illegal to propagate or reproduce at home or in production unless licensed to do so. This particular hybrid has pink waxy flower like bracts with a pink spathe or protruding structure that comes out of the center of the flower like form. Flamingo flowers will bloom year round. This variety of Anthurium tends to be a bit more floriferous or freely blooming then other types of Flamingo flowers when given proper heat and light. This plant also has glossy dark green heart shaped leaves with an upright and outwardly spreading plant shape.

Flamingo Flower (Anthurium x 'Misty Rose') - Blooming

The Flamingo flower 'Misty Rose' will bloom year round. It has pink blooms with a pink spathe or protruding structure arising from the center of the florescence or flower type structure. Plants bloom best when they get good levels of indirect light. Direct light actually prevents good bloom and damages the plant. Blooms of Flamingo flower 'Misty Rose' work well as a cut flower. Blooms will last up to 2-3 weeks as a cut flower.

Flamingo Flower (Anthurium x 'Misty Rose') - Growth

Flamingo flower 'Misty Rose' is a rapid growing Anthurium that reaches 2-3 feet tall in a container. It has an upright growth habit with heart shaped glossy dark green leaves. The plant grows best with day temps between 75-85 F and night temps 65-70 F. It can take periodic temps down to 40 F but growth will be slow and the plant will suffer quite a bit. The minimum temp indoors should go no lower than 60 F. Being native to mountainous rain forests Flamingo flower 'Misty Rose' also likes a higher humidity level then other house plants.

Flamingo Flower (Anthurium x 'Misty Rose') - Planting

Flamingo flower 'Misty Rose' can be transplanted outside in the landscape in zones 11a and above in an area that is shaded to partial sun. In areas with too much sun leaves will scorch and fade. Be sure to transplant into a well draining soil type that will hold moisture but not stay overly saturated. Flamingo flower will do poorly in overly wet soils causing yellowing foliage and root rots. Be sure to dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and deep enough that the top sits flush with the soil surface. Fill in the remaining space with loose top soil and water in well. Most typically the Flamingo flower is grown as a containerized indoor plant. When planting indoors choose a spot with good light but not direct sun exposure. Choose a peat based media that drains very well. Flamingo flower 'Misty Rose' can be grown in a 6 to 8 inch pot.

Flamingo Flower (Anthurium x 'Misty Rose') - Pest

Slugs, snails, mites, worms, thrips and whiteflies can all be problematic. Weeding will help reduce infestation loads. Diseases and bacterium like rhizoctonia, phytophthora, pythium, collectotrichum, xanthomonas and pseudomonas can all be problems as well. Young plants are the most susceptible to infection; maintaining good sanitation of the surrounding areas is a preventative measure.
