B. variegata is native to India and China. It is the most frequently planted bauhinia. It grows to heights and widths of 20 to 35 feet tall and wide. It bears beautiful flowers of light pink to orchid purple, which usually bloom in winter into spring. After bloom, it produces huge crop of beans.
