One of the earliest cabbages. Heads become firm, average about 7" across and weigh about 2lbs. Has sweet flavor with peppery taste uncooked. Moderately easy to grow. Need cool moist conditions for good growth. GARDEN HINTS: For earlier harvest, sow seeds indoors in a sunny spot or under plant lights 6-8 weeks before outdoor planting date. Avoid planting cabbage in garden area where cabbage family was grown the year before.

Cabbage is a cool-season biennial grown as an annual. They grow and mature the best when temperatures do not exceed 80°F. Plants can survive in temperatures as low as 25°F.

Before planting, work in a 2" layer of well-rotted manur or compost into the soil. Sow seeds about 1/2" deep. Space them 12-24" apart in rows with 36" of room in between. Smaller spacing between plants usually results in smaller heads.For spring crops, it is best to sow seeds indoors about 5-7 weeks before the last frost, and then transplant the seedlings into the garden 3-5 weeks after the last frost date. For fall crop, sow seeds directly into the ground in summer. In warm areas, you can plant cabbage in fall, allowing it to overwinter and mature in spring for harvest.
