Parlor Palm (Chamaedorea elegans) - Description

C. elegans is a single-stemmed species. It grows to heights of 6 to 10 feet tall, and 3 to 6 feet wide as an outdoor plant. It is the best indoor chamaedorea, slowly growing to heights of 3 to 4 feet tall.

Flowers are insignificant, produced in summer followed by small, black or orange-red fruit.

Parlor Palm (Chamaedorea elegans) - Growth

Small palm that performs well as a container plant on a patio or other area that receives mostly shade or indirect light. May be able to grow in the ground on the north side of buildings. In areas where Chamaedorea is not growing hardy, raise plants indoors as houseplants or in a warm greenhouse. A warm greenhouse has a minimum temperature of 55°F (13°C). During the day, temperatures should be set to 55-64°F (13-18°C) or above, and at night, the temperature should be at 55°F (13°C).
