Fawn Lily (Erythronium x 'Pagoda') - Description
Also known as Dog Tooth Violets and Trout lilies, they are ideal for naturalizing in shaded places, woodlands or rock gardens
Fawn Lily (Erythronium x 'Pagoda') - Growth
Erythroniums do well in partial or full shade, which is generally thought to prevent the bulbs from drying out. These little lilies are normally found under the canopy of the forest.
Fawn Lily (Erythronium x 'Pagoda') - Planting
Seeds need a cold treatment before being sown to increase the probability of germination. Sow the seeds lightly as they will eventually fill in as the plants grow.
Fawn Lily (Erythronium x 'Pagoda') - Interesting facts
The Trout Lily has many different common names including Adder's Tongue, Serpent's Tongue and Adder's Mouth. The species E. americanum is said to have "magical" healing properties. To heal a wound, it is said that one should soak the plant in cold water. Gently rub the cold, wet plant on the wound. Then bury the used plant in wet mud. Additionally, this plant is associated with femininity and the moon. The common name of Trout Lily is derived from the speckled colors of the plant's leaves, which is reminiscent of the scales of a trout.
Fawn Lily (Erythronium x 'Pagoda') - Soil and irrigation
Erythroniums require rich, porous soil (much like what would be seen on the forest floor) and summer waterings for growing plants.
