The orange or yellow flowers on this shrub sometimes are tinged with red.

The most attractive flowering occurs on unshortened shoots that are only 1 to 3 years old. Remove the flowering shoots to make room for next year's flowers and you can use the removed shoots for festive indoor autumn or winter decoration. Witch hazel may have diminished flowering in milder winters.
