Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Lemon Eclair Hybrid') - Description

Great for cutting, these hybrid, pollen-free, sunflowers won't shed on tabletops. Lemon Eclair has unusually graceful double petals some lightly curled, some small and crested near the center create an exceptional 6-8" wide flower for cutting. The color is an appealing lemon yellow wrapped around luscious chocolate centers. The 4-6' tall plants branch generously. Butterflies will appreciate your efforts with frequent visits to your garden to taste some of this dessert!

Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Lemon Eclair Hybrid') - Blooming

Flowers bloom in the summer, but be aware that many cultivars will not come true from seeds.

Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Lemon Eclair Hybrid') - Growth

Grow in sunny, open areas. Plant in drifts at the back corners and along fences. You should make sure tall varieties are sheltered from the wind or they may even need staking. They will tolerate heat, but frost will kill them.

Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Lemon Eclair Hybrid') - Planting

Sow annual sunflowers outdoors after danger of frost has passed.  You can also propagate from basal cuttings or from division. Their roots chemically inhibit the growth of some other plants.

Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Lemon Eclair Hybrid') - Interesting facts

In addition to the edible seeds of sunflowers, there's another member of this genus that is edible. H. tuberosus, called the Jerusalem Artichoke, has an edible potato-like tuber that tastes similar to water chestnuts.
