Purple Waffle Plant (Hemigraphis alternata 'Exotica') - Description
Hemigraphis alternata is a species in the genus Hemigraphis. Hemigraphis are low-growing annuals, perennials, and subshrubs from tropical Asia. Flourishes in soil that is fertile and moist. Its low-growing habit makes Hemigraphis a suitable groundcover, but where not hardy, plants should be raised indoors in a greenhouse or conservatory.
Purple Waffle Plant (Hemigraphis alternata 'Exotica') - Blooming
Blooms small, tubular flowers from spring to summer, typically white in color and 5-lobed.
Purple Waffle Plant (Hemigraphis alternata 'Exotica') - Growth
Hemigraphis grows best in partial shade, or bright filtered light, with moderate to high humidity, and protection from strong winds. In warm areas, Hemigraphis works well in a border, as edging, or as a groundcover. Where Hemigraphis is not growing hardy, raise plants indoors in a temperate greenhouse or conservatory. Temperate greenhouses have daytime temperatures set between 50-55F (10-13C), and a nighttime temperature of 45F (7C). Many species are also appropriate for hanging baskets.

Propagate from cuttings by rooting softwood or stem tip cuttings in fall or summer. Softwood cuttings are cuttings taken from young, non-woody growth. Conduct separation of rooted stems in spring.
Purple Waffle Plant (Hemigraphis alternata 'Exotica') - Pest
Hemigraphis is prone to whiteflies.
Purple Waffle Plant (Hemigraphis alternata 'Exotica') - Interesting facts
There are 90 known species of Hemigraphis, native to tropical woodland margins in Asia. They are most cultivated for their scalloped, colorful leaves on slender stems.
