Chinese Tallow Tree (Sapium sebiferum) - Description
Triadica sebifera, also known as Sapium sebiferum, is commonly known as the Chinese tallow tree, Florida aspen, chicken tree, gray popcorn tree, and candleberry tree. The tree is native to eastern Asia, and is most commonly associated with eastern China, Taiwan, and Japan. In these regions, the waxy coating of the seeds is used for candle and soap making, and the leaves are used as herbal medicine to treat boils.

The waxy coating on the outside of the fruits can be used to make the tallow needed in soap making. The wax is also used to make candles. The species name, sebiferum, actually means "wax-bearing". Tallow Trees are also good for vegetable oil production, much of which is being utilized in the production of biodiesel. These trees are native to China, Japan and Taiwan, but has more or less naturalized in parts of North America.
