Monkey Puzzle (Araucaria araucana) - Description

A. araucana is native to Chile. It bears heavy spreading branches and ropelike branchlets closely set with sharp-pointed dark green leaves. It slowly grows, eventually reaching heights of 70 to 90 feet tall, and 30 feet wide. It is also the hardiest of the araucarias.

Does best in full sun. Height varies depending on variety. Some species will reach a height of 100 ft.

Plant seeds as soon as they are ripe. Stem cuttings can be rooted, but only use the vertical stems. Horizontal stems will never produce a proper tree. Make cuttings in midsummer and provide some heat.
