Scarlet Sage (Salvia splendens 'Red Hot Sally') - Description
Salvia splendens 'Red Hot Sally' is another of the annual type Salvias. Gorgeous bright red blooms dominate this short statured, upright growing beauty that won't reach over 10" in height. The unfortunate trade off of this explosive bloomer is it's lack of hardiness below zone 11-- meaning it won't do well in cooler winter zones. But for unbelievable swaths of summer and fall color, plant this Salvia generously in large groups and enjoy the show. Besides attracting droves of butterflies and hummingbirds into your garden, it will not lose it's intense color even in the hottest of heat spells. It will benefit to remove spent blooms to encourage new flushes of flowering.
