Rue (Ruta graveolens) - Description

Ruta graveolens, commonly known as rue, common rue or herb-of-grace, is a species of Ruta grown as a herb. It is native to the Balkan Peninsula, southeastern Europe. It is now grown throughout the world as an ornamental plant in gardens, especially because of its bluish leaves, and also sometimes for its tolerance of hot and dry soil conditions. It also is cultivated as a medicinal herb, as a condiment, and to a lesser extent as an insect repellent.

Rue (Ruta graveolens) - Blooming

Blooms aromatic 4 or 5-petaled flowers that are unusual looking. They are yellow in color, and are either fringed or toothed, borne in terminal cymes.

Rue (Ruta graveolens) - Growth

Deciduous or evergreen shrubs, subshrubs, and woody-based herbaceous perennials, found in dry, rocky regions. Grows best with full sun or partial shade. Flourishes in hot, dry weather conditions. Bears aromatic foliage and flowers. Works well in a mixed or herbaceous border, in a large rock garden or herb garden.
