Japanese Forest Grass (Hakonechloa x 'Aureola') - Description

A grass tolerant of shade! 2009 Perennial of the Year. Richly golden variegated leaves form delicate looking, toughAs-nails mounded plants. Easy to grow and provides interest in all four seasons. Ht: 18-24". Zones 6-9.

Japanese Forest Grass (Hakonechloa x 'Aureola') - Growth

In areas with hot summers, partial shade is best, but Hakonechloa thrives best in areas with cool summers. In full sun, cool summer areas the yellow portions of the variegated blades will turn white, while in the partial shade, hot summer areas they will turn golden-yellow. In full shade they will turn lime-green. It is frost hardy. While it does spread through rhizomes, it is not invasive.
