Apache Plume (Fallugia paradoxa) - Description
F. paradoxa is native to the mountains of medium and high deserts of California, southwestern United States, and northern Mexico. It bears small, lobed leaves which are deep green on top, and rusty beneath. It bears flowers ressembling single white roses, which bloom in spring and summer.

For better flowering, some afternoon shade, especially in the heat of the desert, is suggested. Occasional watering may also help flowering, as long as it does not lead to root rot.

The apache plume gets its name from the 1-2" long feathery styles that persist after the petals of the flowers have dropped. When the fruit has matured, wind carries the seeds by the styles to new locations.
