Freesia (Freesia hybrids) - Description

Freesai x hybrida is native to South Africa. It is prized for the rich perfume of the flowers it bears. It bears single or double blossoms in yellow, orange, red, pink, lavender, purple, blue, white mixed or in single color varieties.

Freesia grows best in full sun, and is hardy to 20°F (-6°C), if the soil does not freeze to the depth of the corms. If there is a danger of freezing, dig up corms for winter.

Plant corms 2" deep with pointed end up in fall. If in pots, plant 2" apart. Easily grown from seed sown in July-August, or propagate by breaking up corm clumps during the dormant season. Plant in spring for summer flowers or in fall for spring flowers.
