Ruffled, large and frilly purple leaves are beautiful and fragrant on Basil 'Purple Ruffles'. It has a stronger flavor than Sweet Basil but milder flavor than Green Ruffles. Adds color & flavor to herb vinegars along with it's other culinary exploits. This Burpee exclusive, despite its huge leaves, It only tops out at around 12" -18" high, making it a perfect small container herb. As with all basil either start seeds indoors or sow seeds outside once threat of all frost has passed.

Although basils do flower, generally the leaves on the stems that have yet to flower are the best for use as an herb. Often times the floral buds are pinched to promote more leaf production.
