Chinese Tree Peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Red Wu Long Peng Shen') - Description
A truly great, peony producing 6" brilliant red blooms. Prized by collectors, treasured by gardeners the world over. Tree Peonies are loved by everyone who has ever seen them in bloom and last a lifetime in the garden. A deciduous shrub, not a tree, the tree peony has woody stems and grows to a height of 3-6 feet, often with a wider spread. These gorgeous cultivars are imported from the Orient, where for many centuries they have had an exalted place in the culture. A mature shrub produces dozens of huge, long lasting, silken blooms that delight the eye in May-June, depending on cultivar and climate. Plant one as a specimen in a prominent place in the garden, or plant several in a mixed border surrounded with summer-blooming perennials. They like sun or part shade, and rich, well drained soil.
