Chinese Photinia (Photinia serrulata) - Description
Photinia serratifolia (syn. Photinia serrulata), commonly called Chinese photinia is a flowering shrub or tree in the Rosaceae family of flowering plants, found in mixed forests of China, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and India. It grows typically 4–6 m (13–20 ft), sometimes up to 12 m (39 ft), tall. Its leaves are toxic due to the presence of cyanogenic glycosides.

Blooms small, 5-petaled, cup-shaped flowers followed by spherical red fruits.
Chinese Photinia (Photinia serrulata) - Growth
Deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. Photinias grow best in full sun or partial shade. Deciduous species work well in a woodland garden. Evergreens make good hedges or additions to a shrub border. Less hardy species can be grown along a wall or under some trees.
Chinese Photinia (Photinia serrulata) - Planting
Sow seeds in containers in a cold frame in the fall or take semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
Chinese Photinia (Photinia serrulata) - Pest
Photinia is vulnerable to leaf spot, crown gall, mushroom root rot, gray mold, and leaf scorch.
Chinese Photinia (Photinia serrulata) - Soil and irrigation
Photinias prefer fertile, moist, well-drained soil. P. beauverdiana and P. villosa require neutral to acidic soil.
