Red Surprise 90 days. Bring zest to your salads with the simplest-to-grow chicory we've ever seen. Perfect baseball-sized heads of brilliant wine red leaves are marbled with pure white veins. Much more dependable than other kinds, it does well planted in early spring and harvested in summer. Highly bolt resistant. Burpee exclusive. Plant early in spring. Grows best in cool weather. Can also be grown as a fall crop. Protect from heat with shade cloth. Likes fertile soil, ample water. Best when picked minutes before your meal. Space plants 8" apart. Will plant about 30' of row; one oz. sows 400. Grows best in full sun.
