Rich green foliage with 2' stems flowering from the base upwards. Tubular scarlet flowers edged yellow-green.

Flowers in early summer. Funnel-shaped, red, yellow or purple blooms, borne in cymes.

Annuals or perennials. Needs partial to full shade. Will grow in full sun only if the soil remains moist at all times. Can spread to 1 1/2 ft. and reach 2 ft. tall. S. marilandica grows best in a bed or border. Also makes a nice addition to a woodland garden.
