Red Escallonia (Escallonia rubra) - Description

E. rubra bears smooth, very glossy dark green leaves with red or crimson flowers in 1 to 3 inch clusters.

Red Escallonia (Escallonia rubra) - Blooming

Your Escallonia may bloom at least sparcely almost year round, but heavy blooming will occur in summer. Water regularly for fuller blooming.

Red Escallonia (Escallonia rubra) - Growth

Evergreen shrubs. Escallonia grows best in full sun and with shelter from cold, dry winds. Works well in a shrub border, as a hedge, screen, or against wall, especially in coastal regions. If there is a danger of frost, cover your Escallonia with a drop cloth.

Propagate using semi-ripe cuttings or softwood cuttings in summer. Or take hardwood cuttings in between late fall and winter.
