Coastal Flax (Phormium tenax) - Description
P. tenax is a large, bold plant with bronzy green leaves. It bears many dull red or reddish orange flowers .

Blooms a large amount of small, tubular flowers on leafless stems in summer. Phormium is grown for its often colorful, large and long foliage.

Evergreen perennial. Plants do well in full sun or light shade. Mulch less hardy species in winter. Grows best in coastal conditions. Works well in a border or as a specimen plant by lawns or buildings. However, Phormium is usually grown in containers for pleasant summer viewing.
