Poa pratensis, commonly known as Kentucky Bluegrass, Smooth Meadow-grass, or Common Meadow-grass, is a perennial species of grass native to Europe, Asia, North America, and northern Africa.

Believe it or not, Kentucky Blue Grass is not native to Kentucky or anywhere in North America. It is native to Europe. It is thought that early colonists brought Kentucky Blue Grass to North America unintentionally in seed bags of other grass species. Strangely enough, this tough turf grass out-competed all the others to become the most common grass in the US!
