Persian Shield (Strobilanthes dyerianus) - Description
Desired more for its exotic foliage than its flowers, this wonderful stunner has a beautiful, vase-shaped habit that fills out containers perfectly. Has short spikes of funnel-shaped, 1-1/4" pale blue flowers in the fall. Likes moist soil. Height 2'. Annual.

Blooms in summer, but the flowers are not as showy as the foliage. The flowers are funnel-shaped, 2-lipped with hoods.

Evergreen or deciduous perennials or soft-stemmed shrubs. Needs partial shade. Can reach 4 ft. tall and 3 ft. wide. Hardy plants grow well in a herbaceous border. Tender species work well as summer bedding, or grow in a warm greenhouse.
